Composite Filling
Composite fillings, also known as tooth-colored fillings, resin fillings, or white fillings, are a dental restorative material used to repair cracked, decayed, chipped, broken, or worn teeth.
What is composite filling?
Composite filling is an aesthetic treatment method used to treat material losses, dental caries, tooth structure disorders and discolorations that disturb the patient after trauma. It is a type of treatment that is frequently used today. Composite fillings can also be used in other dental procedures, such as applying veneers and crowns.
They are made from a mixture of powdered glass or ceramic particles and a resin base, and are designed to blend in with natural teeth.
The dentist prepares the tooth by removing the decayed or affected area.
The dentist chooses a shade that matches the patient’s teeth.
The dentist bonds the filling to the tooth.
The dentist shines a blue UV light on the tooth to harden the filling
The entire process usually takes about an hour, but it can vary depending on the patient.
After the procedure, the patient may experience minor soreness and numbness for a while, so they may want to eat soft foods for the first day.
Composite fillings are strong, but may not be as durable as amalgam fillings.
They can resist cavities and withstand moderate pressure from chewing, but they may stain over time.
